MUSIC IN BASILICA 2019

June – September 2019
Opening on June 22nd with the string orchestra ‘Arrigoni’. 
Grand finale on September 14th with the Polifonico of Ruda and ‘La musica dei cieli’ (‘music of heaven’)

The Music in Basilica 2019 edition will focus on the Holy music production of the history of the Western Church, a vast repertoire, from the sixteenth century to the present day. The novelty of this year is the enlargement of the territory that will benefit from it: not only the basilica of Aquileia, but also the basilica of Santa Eufemia in Grado.

The 2019 edition will see the USA university orchestra performances, Wind ensemble, and the Mahler Jungendorchester, founded by Claudio Abbado, pillar of youth music all over the world for the third time in Aquileia.

Opening on Saturday 22nd June with the string orchestra ‘Arrigoni’ from San Vito al Tagliamento with a mozartian programme; 

On Saturday 6th July ‘Nova ars cantandi’, a Milanese collegium vocale founded by Giovanni Acciai and among the most accredited worldwide, will play an absolute novelty, ‘Responsoria’ by Leonardo Leo, sixteenth-century composer among the most important of the Italian Renaissance.

On Thursday 11th July, singing of Vespers interpreted by the diocesan choir of Gorizia directed by Francesco Fragiacomo, and on 12th July there will be the liturgical celebration for the feast of saints Ermagora and Fortunato - patrons of Aquileia.

On Saturday 13th July performance of  the USA university orchestra, Wind ensemble.

On Tuesday 16th July, in the Basilica of Grado, the ‘Holy instrumental music’ played by the pianist Ferdinando Mussutto and the cellist Riccardo Pes, youth musicians appreciated worldwide.

On Thursday 1st August the Basilica of Grado host the Tomadin-Romina Basso duo (organ and voice) to present the world premiere of ‘Le divine lodi musicali’ ('The divine musical praises') by Giovan Battista Riccio, seventeenth-century composer, dedicated to the Patriarch of Aquileia Antonio Grimani. 

On Wednesday 14th August the great event, again in Aquileia, with the Mahler Jungendorchester which will propose a new and particularly appealing program for the direction of Tobias Wogerer.

Two appointement also for the Choral Music:
on Sunday 25th August the female choir ‘Solensemble’ with a concert dedicated to Marian music. 

Grand finale on Saturday 14th September with the Polifonico of Ruda, today the most awarded male choir among Europe, proposing ‘La musica dei cieli’ (‘music of heaven’) project, inspired by the ten Dante’s heavens.
