On Saturday 22nd September, on the occasion of European Heritage Days, “Open Day” of the archaeological areas and the excavations in Aquileia, workshops for children, #smArt Radio Live show, extraordinary opening of the National Archaeological Museum and the Early Christian Museum.

Thanks to the collaboration among Fondazione Aquileia, the General Direction of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Polo Museale del Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Municipality of Aquileia, as well as all the universities carrying out their excavations campaigns in Aquileia (University of Padua, Trieste, Udine, Venice and Verona) and the local associations (Associazione nazionale per Aquileia,  Koinè, Pozzo d'oro, Pro Loco Aquileia, Società Friulana di Archeologia), all the archaeological areas and excavation sites of Aquileia are opened to the public on certain days, when archaeologists and scholars welcome citizens and enthusiasts on the sites to report about the latest discoveries and the results of the latest surveys.

The open days come coupled with some side events, including workshops and performances entirely dedicated to the discovery of the extraordinary archaeological heritage of Aquileia, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1998.

From 10 to 12:30 am and from 15.30 to 17.30 pm citizens and visitors will be able to visit, without booking, the Roman Forum, the River Port, the Great Baths, the Theatre and the byzantine Walls, the Wounded Beasts excavation, the Via Gemina excavation, the Markets area and the ancient Walls excavations in Fondo Pasqualis. Archaeologists will be in every areas, while in Capitolo square, in Roman Forum and River Port visitors will find Information Points with the Map of the archaeological sites.

From 16 to 17 pm the workshops for children will be available ( compulsory booking, send an email to museoaquileiadidattica@beniculturali.it ) in the National Archaeological Museum.

From 18.30 pm , in the Archaeological Museum, there will be the #smArt Radio Live show, edited by Fondazione Radio Magica onlus: the actress Daniela Gattorno, together with the multi-instrumentalist Giovanni Floreani, tell  stories to the public about women, men, treasures of Aquileia on the live illustrations background of the artist Paolo Gallina.

During the Open Day the Early Christian Museum will be open from 8.30 am to 17.30 pm and there will be an extraordinary evening opening of the National Archaeological Museum until 22.30 pm (entrance fee 1,00 €) and at 21.00 pm guided tour with the museum director Marta Novello ( compulsory booking, send an email to museoaquileiadidattica@beniculturali.it or call to 0431 91035).
